good subs, great chicken salad, lobster bisque supposedly sells out every day. Cool sports memorabilia on the walls. In the ghetto though. Cool, crazy cat lady in the parking lot that feeds the neighborhood ferals. This place has character, which I prefer over a chain any day.

When it comes to the world of subs, Lou has them all from their "Super Italian" (my fav) down through crabmeat, tuna, turkey, ham cappacola and more plus a "Lou's Monster" which if you get the 12 incher, it really is monster. He also has different soups every day of the week, various items off the grill, salads hot subs, steak subs, wraps, deli sandwiches and hot plates of varying pasta based dishes and a barbecue pork platter. Lou's is big, bright, and roomy with plenty of seating and pleasant sport fishing décor. The staff is particularly friendly and quick not only to pick up on your name but amazingly remember it when you return. Though an Italian Sub and an Italian Hoagie are essential the same without a wits bit of difference between the two, when it comes to them I must confess that my personal preference would be for a Laspada's Original West Chester Pennsylvania Hoagie.

I can't believe this is my first time at Lou's since I have lived in Pompano for almost 3 years. The restaurant is definitely old school, it's been around for over 30 years. After reading several reviews about Lou's famous subs I finally got over there to try one out for myself. The guy that created my sub was friendly, I ordered a small roast beef sub with all the fixings, he quickly assembled it, I was actually surprised by how quickly it was ready, I took it to go. Once I unwrapped my sub and started biting into it, I realized why it was assembled so quickly, it was a freaking mess, stuff was just falling out of it on all sides! There was no tucking in of the fixings, everything had just been thrown in. The bread tasted fresh and it was delicious, and the roast beef had a nice flavor however it was overcooked for my liking, I prefer by sub roast beef to be rare, there were some areas that were on the medium rare side but most of it was medium to medium well, and the fixings were also good for the most part, the sweet peppers were delicious, and the lettuce, tomatoes and onions where good, however I didn't care for the black canned olives. I love that they now have their own herb garden, I can definitely taste the difference and freshness, their homemade potato salad with the fresh herbs is unbelievably good, I wish they cooked their Roast Beef more on the rare side. Service is very attentive and friendly. Overall good sub if I am in the area.

Great place for a quick fresh sub! I heard about Lou's on one of our dive trips down from Jacksonville .. we filled our tanks right up the road .... Dive shop suggested Lou's .. LOVED it! Always made it by Lou's when in town... NOW that I moved to the Pompano Beach area - I keep coming back for more! We love the fresh subs and always have a good experience. Lines can sometimes be lengthy during peak times of the day, but we have learned not to go during lunch. I had the BEST chicken pesto sub yesterday. This is my fave sub shop in Pompano. Decor is a dated and dress is relaxed as you can see in the pics, but it's fun decor... lots of fish and super cool pictures taken throughout the years. They keep the place neat and clean... gets a little loud during busy times, but well worth it.

Had been eyeing this place for a while and finally made the trek with a co-worker. Very glad I did. Very small divey place that's hard to spot but still pretty clean. Thankfully we arrived at a time that wasn't busy as there wasn't a long line or shortage of tables and gave us the opportunity to scan the menu a bit. I ended up going for a chicken salad sandwich with bacon. I was tempted to order a Monster but I'm honestly glad I didn't, because my sandwich was already overflowing with chicken salad. The salad had a lot of mayo too, which I like, and was just overall really good. I have yet to try La Spada's chicken salad sandwich, and am a little eager to compare the two. Finished it off with some sort of... brownie/cookie hybrid. Cookie base, fudge brownie on top drizzled with caramel. The cookie part was a little hard but it actually worked really well texture-wise with the gooey brownie part. Still would've preferred a chewier cookie but it was a great (gluttonous) way to finish the meal. When it comes to cold cuts I'd still slightly lean toward La Spada's, but this place has way more variety when it comes to their menu with their hot subs, so it gets a 5 as well.

I'm constantly on the hunt for a good cheesesteak and found a great one here! Bread is awesome, cheese melted in the way I like it and steak chopped up to perfection... Add grilled onions and cherry peppers... I'm in heaven.

Holy shit! Typing this while chewing... All i can say is, AMAZING. I got a large Italian in order to save half for later.. This thing is HUGE and so tempting to finish the rest right now. One of the best subs I've ever had. I will definitely become a regular here. If only i had discovered them sooner. Perfect bread and perfect meat to bread ratio. Perfection. And a friendly staff, i walked in and out quickly great service.

Best subs in Pompano. The Super Italian 6" was a lot more food than I expected and stuffed to the brim. Bread was soft and sweet, made fresh for sure. Potato salad may be the best I've ever had. Will frequent from now on!

Good spot for a quick freshly prepared sandwich! Enjoyed a 6 inch Italian on soft bread with flavorful meat. Lots of soda and chip options and felt like it was a more authentic sub experience compared to the pre cut meats of the sub giants around. The inside is cozy and it gets pretty busy around lunch time. I was tempted to try the steak and cheese which seems to be the goto from what the regulars around me ordered, but was still pleased with my Italian. Overall this place does not disappoint and will see more of me soon.

Whatever you're in the mood for here, it will likely be good. I love subs and sandwiches. All the meat and veggies here were fresh. The area around Lou's looks like an industrial park and its right across from the railroad tracks. We went in on a Sunday afternoon after church and it was steady. People started loading in the door as soon as we started to order! I had a complicated order if ya' know what I mean So I felt a little bad for the guests that had just piled in the door but the employees were so nice, accommodating, and quick to get all of us taken care of in order but timely. For my first time trying Lou's, the Reuben was calling my name! I asked if they could possibly not heat the sandwich all together (because at some places the bread gets a bit soggy). The guy cutting the meat was so nice, he asked me a few specifics which made for an epic Reuben. He heated up the corned beef, sauerkraut and cheese separately, toasted the rye bread and then added the thousand island. That was the best Reuben I've had in a long time. I didn't know potato salad came with it so I ordered chips. The potato salad was not good. It was way too sweet with pickle relish and carrots I think. It was also a little thick but not creamy. They just need a basic potato salad made with mayo, mustard salt, pepper, egg, paprika, and a dash of cayenne for a big batch. It would compliment the big flavors of their sandwiches better. No one wanted it so I threw it out~ that's the only reason for the four stars! The decor is old but not really outdated! It shows a guy's whole fishing life time! I actually enjoyed looking around at the photos of the many fish he has caught over the years. Some of the fish hanging around are ones he has actually caught in the past.

One of the best sub places in south florida. I'm a big sub enthusiast, so this place has been top of the list for subs. Everything they use is so fresh and just perfect. Offer a wide selection of subs from hot or cold. I personally get the Turkey with Munster cheese and you can definitely taste the quality in it. Price is about $11 for a full sub or $7 for a 6inch combo meal. Obviously if you're used to 5 dollar foot longs, this may be a bit pricey. I don't mind the price for the quality they serve. Workers are very friendly and has a great feel to the restaurant. It's full of fish, pictures and sport memorabilia. Great place to definitely try. If you check in, you get a medium drink, so don't fogey to check in!

Lou's Giant Subs & Deli is a sub shop located south on Dixie highway off Copans Road. I've had the pleasure of eating lunch here a couple times. Lou's seems to know a little bit about advertising and making sure people know the place is there. The eatery has a large, yellow pole sign prominently displayed outside on the road. It's easy to locate and not hard to find (plus, iPhones? Duh). Secondly, there is ample parking and I've never had a problem parking my large service van during lunch hours. Lou's also has something that is close to my heart: a classic deli aroma. When you walk in your nostrils are filled with that meaty/vinegary whiff in the air that brings you back to the first time you entered a sub shop as a kid. It never gets old. Maybe if I win the lottery I will create a cologne with the same scent. To divert from the nose, I love the atmosphere of Lou's. There's pictures of the owner and his friends and family, pictures of sports fishing tacked on every available space on the wall, as well as a large hood of an old Nascar racecar. To have an owner share his own personal recreations and pleasures to customers is the definition of a time-honored deli. Even the old, red plastic menus above the counter with the slide-in white lettering make me overwhelmed with nostalgia every time. Of the both times I had visited I did not have a problem with slow service; the food came out quickly and I was rung up in an appropriate manner. The subs are delicious and well prepared, to be succinct. The last time I went I had a traditional Italian sub, with mayo. The bread is not a hard Italian roll, for the elitists, but it was good nonetheless. The meat was of good quality and the lettuce was crisp. The subs are stuffed and plentiful. Served up with a bag of Voodoo chips and birch beer? You can't beat it. Yet, the sandwich was not my favorite part. Lou's also serves arguably the most divine brownie squares you will find at a deli period. I got a caramel fudge brownie with a graham cracker bottom that was similar to an orgasm in experience. Well, maybe not as good....maybe I was just a little hungry... All in all, Lou's is a place where the every man is catered to, a place where blue collar guy's who've been eating there for years can mingle with yuppie Yelpers who are looking for that perfect hole-in-the-wall to escape the corporate maze. It's a great spot to go to no matter who you are, jokes aside, just be sure to check it out.

This place has a really good blackened Dolphin sandwich, I get two of them because one is not enough. Their cold sandwiches aren't that great IMO. Have a brownie.

Simply outstanding subs. Fresh, tasty and made to order. Also, for the vegetarians: excellent cheese sub. And for the record, I'd take Lou's over Laspadas any day of the week.

This sub shop is located on Dixie highway across from the Goodyear blimp hanger in Pompano Beach! I try to stop each time I drive up this way! I just put down a 6 inch "Special Italian" and went back in for a 6 inch "Steak and Cheese-the works". Best sub sandwich around with relatively cheap prices. 6 or 12 inch subs or 6 or 10 inch cheesesteaks. This place is kinda ~honkey tonk hillbilly~ due to its location but its clean and well maintained! Family owned business with all kinds of deep sea fishing pictures past and present on the walls with catches by the owners and family.... Adds to the honkey tonk feel but Kind of out of place for a sub shop...thought I was at a fish shack. I can do without the paper and magic marker signs labeling "everything" in sight?.... Looks a little cluttered. The vinyl checkerboard table cloths bring the place down? Anybody wanna have a picnic?! Lol! Interior design or the lack thereof aside....The bread here is so fresh and the cut cold cuts are sliced fresh and a step up from all of the sub chains. The ham in the Italian was cut razor thin and generously piled into the sub. Thick pieces of provolone cheese and salami and cappicola topped with some light oil and vinegar made the "Super Italian" super duper and amazing! Lou's "everything on it" consists of lettuce, tomato, oregano, onion, oil and vinegar at no charge. .29 cents more for selection of black olives, pickles, green peppers, roasted red peppers, hot peppers, banana peppers etc... The subs are soft and light, the staff is friendly at the counter. No frills self seat dining room with red plastic "eat in" trays and two picnic tables out front to watch ye ole Flagler train line which runs down Dixie Highway. HeeeHaaawhh! Eclectic mix of people. Big parking lot. Lighted. Third time here. Steak and Cheese subs are the bomb! There's a specials board as well....I missed the French Dip... Will try next time. :-)

I've lived in the area for 36 years. You can't beat the food, you can't beat the price, and you can't beat the people that own/work there. In my opinion they are the best damn subs in town.

  • Doug F.

This is a real sub shop! Great bread and deli meats. The roast beef is made in house and is gooood! Fresh chicken and tuna salad also. Not the best location, but it has been here for 40 years. The area may have gone down, but the subs are amazing! Ill be back!

LOU's has the best subs. Great quality ingredients make Lou's our first choice for subs. Lou's has the best tomatoes and the best seasoned roast beef. I highly recommend getting the roast beef Lou's way. Every time we go, we also make sure to get the lobster bisque. It is the BEST lobster bisque you can get. If cold sandwiches aren't your thing, I highly recommend their cuban sandwich or chicken philly cheesesteaks or any of their salads.

Let me put something out there first and foremost, my brother Jasen works here. But please believe me when I say my opinion is not biased based on that fact, because Lou's really is incredible and I INSIST if you have not been here, you at least try it! Stopped in after spending most of a day working to say hi to our brother, grabbed some lunch as well. I decided to go for the cheese steak and was pleasantly surprised in every way. The amount of steak was generous and cooked to juicy perfection, covered in melty cheese on a perfect bun. Possibly the most remarkable thing about this visit was the soup! My god the conch chowder was incredible, definitely didn't see that coming from a sub joint. Lou's customer service is outstanding and entertaining (my brother included), the decor is deliciously tacky and the walls are covered in photo's of Big Lou's fishing conquests.

I Grew up in Kendal green and have been going here since I can remember. I have since moved but still come back for these awesome subs. I think for the past 20 years I've ordered a roast beef sub, and its always been the best. Finally tried something, well not so different, and got a steak and cheese and it was equally as yummy. Highly recommend this sub shop!

I am a big Sub Fan and love Laspadas and V&S in Boca... I got the Super Italian and was totally underwhelmed. I enjoy the savoryness of Italian hard meets on this sub I could not tell if I was eating ham, or turkey or any other nondescript meat. The vegetables were fresh but the dressing had no flavor. Maybe it was an off day... But I don't usually give second chances

    (2)
  • Jason A.

Food is great, subs are huge from the super Italian to the Cuban sandwich... The lobster bisque is awesome. Don't forget the great brownies and fruit punch! The fountain syrup drinks (grape, fruit punch and lemonade) are outstanding! Great quality for the price. Wide variety or cold and hot subs, I was surprised that hot pastrami was great and prepared exactly how I asked for it. I even love the sign at the front of the line that warns you that you won't receive service if you're on the phone, I love it!!! The setting/ambiance is a bit antiquated but the food and service makes up for it. A must try!!!

This is the second time im here. Both times ive ordered the steak & onion sub, the only downside of this sub is that is too hot to eat when they give it to me LOL other than that, is betweem this place and Hoagie Bear down in homestead!!! Fantastic sub! I'll be working in the area for the next 1-2 yrs and i will be coming here to get my cheat meal very often!!!!

Went today for the first time with a co-worker. I had the chicken philly, he had the roast beef and turkey. I liked my chicken philly a lot. Very cheesy, very hot out of the oven (took 10 minutes), bread was really soft (but not too soft). I had sweet peppers on it and they were as good as the peppers at Laspadas. Colleague liked the roast beef and turkey but not enough to go out of his way to come back to Lou's on a regular basis. Lou's not only sells subs and salads but also some pasta dishes, cookies, brownies, cheesecake, pound cake and fountain beverages including Gatorade fruit punch, regular fruit punch, lemonade and grape juice. Restaurant is far from a sharp, tidy, trendy place. Total throwback to the old school sandwich shop, which means it's not filthy but it's also not pristine. A lot of tiny bits of meat on the slicer, dining area is acceptable enough to pass for clean. People who worked there were happy and aware of the customers. I'd absolutely go back if I were in the area and would go out of my way to return if I was really hungry. Prices make Jersey Mikes and Laspadas and places like that competitive with Lou's since they don't quite charge as much. But it is very very good.

I came into Lou's because Subs Subs Subs "ran out of bread" for the second time. Lou's had good bread, good food, and a nice staff. The place looks a little outdated with some sun faded pictures all over the place. Some of the ceiling tiles look like they should be replaced. He could use a little bit of bit of a remodel. Hey they gave me a free drink because of my military status. Overall a pretty good place to get a sub.

  • Diana D.

Haven't had a sub recently due to cutting down on bread items but boy do I miss this place. Fresh sliced deli meats on the spot. Always annoyed you have to pay extra for some toppings like peppers and such but very tasty and fast and friendly service.

  • Ina N.

I love coming to lou's but its a hit or miss. Theres a guy there and I guess we caught him at a bad time but he was a complete asshole. He made the most disgusting turkey sub that felt like he put no sauces on it even though I asked. He was rushing us and I felt uneasy about even taking the sub. The cashier was sweet as always but that one guy idk his name he has kinda long hair and a scruffy beard and he smokes, don't let him make your sub!!! Other than that the bread is really nice, its soft and fresh but has a great thickness to it. And the lemonade is also a favorite of mine

I've lived in North Broward how many years and never tried Lou's? What's my problem? These guys make some outstanding sandwiches, and the choices and options are endless! All the ingredients are extremely fresh, and they don't skimp on anything. I even like their country-store/truck-stop atmosphere.

Lou's has been around for ever. The fish subs are the absolute best because the fish is fresh every morning. If fish isn't your thing then get a hot or cold meat sub you wont be disappointed.

  • Kobe D.

Lou's is very good. I live in Pompano and have to drive pretty far to get to a Laspadas, but Lou's is just a few minutes away. The first thing you'll notice about Lou's is the excellent professional service. I love Laspadas' subs but let's face it, the service there is consistently horrible. The tattooed covered hipsters they hire seem either perpetually hung over from the night before or blazed out of their minds. Either way the attitude in there is like they're doing you a favor, it is what it is I guess. At Lou's you're treated like a valued customer, they conduct themselves professionally, and you'll never walk into the staff blaring some horrible dub step off somebody's iPod. Lou's subs are 99% as good as Laspadas. They build them differently and they are a bit smaller and little more expensive but very tasty. I have the best luck staying away from my usual Laspadas order and trying new things at Lou's. I especially like their hot Italian sub with pesto. It's fantastic. Give them a try even if you're a Laspadas die hard, you'll come back to Lou's again.

This is not just another sub place by FAR, and is more of a local deli or even a restaurant that serves mostly subs. The meat is sliced to order, the bread is delivered daily and the roast beef is slow roasted in house. You can even get truffle mayo on your chicken breast chibatta sandwich with two different kinds of homemade pesto. Or get spaghetti, lasagna, or a number of other hot items on the menu. The subs are solid! My fav are the Cuban, Turkey Pesto Press or the Hot Roast Beef with Au Jus to dip. OH! Also have to mention the fresh fish they have - Dolphin. . most of the time caught by Lou himself. I would suggest you go out of your way to eat at this place. Ask for TJ - tell him Lindsey sent you.

I have been eating at Lou's since the late 70's when they were up the road. Nuff said.

Haven't had a sub recently due to cutting down on bread items but boy do I miss this place. Fresh sliced deli meats on the spot. Always annoyed you have to pay extra for some toppings like peppers and such but very tasty and fast and friendly service.

The soft bread and tasty Italian cold cuts is the major draw here. Best sub bread I've ever had.

Location Location Location. I ordered a sick Dolphin sandwich and my buddy grabbed a killer sub. They both were huge and great unlike the shop.
